Privacy policy
Last updated 8 October 2026
This page covers the carbon.kids website, the Carbon Kids TV games on it, and the Carbon Kids TV app for Google TV and Fire TV. They are made by Wovoka, Inc. Questions or requests: hello@carbon.kids.
- Children never type a name, an email or anything else about themselves. There are no accounts or logins, and no ads.
- The phone a child holds as the controller collects nothing.
- The TV app collects nothing itself, and has no ads, tip jar, links out or Google Analytics.
- Grown-ups who sign up give us a name and an email. We use them only to write to you, and we never sell them.
- The website counts visits and game rounds so we know what people enjoy.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
The games are made for children aged 4 to 8, played with a grown-up nearby, and we follow the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Children can play every game for free without registering or typing a name, email address, phone number or location, and the games give them no way to enter any. The sign-up forms, the tip jar and the Forest Club page are for grown-ups.
The only thing collected while children play is the anonymous game counting described under Google Analytics below, used only to keep the games running and see which ones families enjoy. That is the "support for internal operations" COPPA allows without asking parents first. It is never used for ads or to build a profile of anyone.
If you think a child has sent us personal information, write to us and we will delete it. Parents can ask us at any time what we hold and have it deleted.
What we collect, and why
- Sign-up forms. When a grown-up joins the book list or the Forest Club founding list, we keep the name and email you type, and on the Forest Club page the plan and extras you picked. They go into a Google Sheet through Google Apps Script. We use them to tell you about the books and the club. You can ask to come off a list at any time.
- "Email me" requests. When a grown-up asks us to email the free sample or the TV game link, we keep the email address in the same Google Sheet and send that one email through Resend, an email service. We also add you to the book list, so we can tell you when book one is ready to order. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Tips and orders. Payments go through Stripe. Stripe gives us your name, email and the amount, never your card number. Stripe's own privacy policy covers what it does.
- Visit counts (Vercel Web Analytics). Our host, Vercel, counts page visits on the website and in the TV app: which page, the site you came from, your country and the kind of device. It uses no cookies and doesn't follow you to other sites.
- Google Analytics. In a web browser, the website and the TV game pages use Google Analytics 4. On the game pages it records only: a game starting (
game_start) and ending (game_end) with the game, the level, how many players and phones, and how long the round took; a phone joining (phone_joined); and when a grown-ups' tip jar card showed. Google works out a rough country from the connection and doesn't log or store IP addresses. It stores a random ID in a cookie on that browser. Google signals, cross-device tracking and ad personalisation are all turned off, we show no ads, and the data is kept for 2 months, the shortest setting. It never runs on the phone controller or in the TV app.
How the phone talks to the TV
To join a game, the phone and the TV find each other through a free public connection service called PeerJS. It sees the two devices' internet addresses so it can introduce them. After that, button presses go straight between the phone and the TV, and they are just presses: no names, pictures or sound. In the games' Roar mode, the phone measures how loud the room is, right on the phone. Nothing is recorded or sent.
What stays on your own devices
The TV's browser, or the app, keeps a few small settings so the games work: the 4-letter join code, the sound setting, best times, the month's Forest Club code word, and a count of rounds played. They never leave the device. Clearing the browser's data (or the app's storage) wipes them.
Other services the pages load
The pages load their fonts from Google Fonts. Your browser fetches the font files from Google, which sees your internet address when it does.
The Carbon Kids TV app
The app is a window onto the carbon.kids game pages. It only asks for internet access. Inside the app there is no Google Analytics, no tip jar, no partner QR cards, no ads and no links to other websites. The visit counts and the phone connection described above work the same way as on the website.
Who we share it with
Only the services named on this page, which handle it for us: Google (Sheets, Apps Script, Analytics, Fonts), Resend (to send emails you ask for), Stripe, Vercel and PeerJS. We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers.
Your choices
Write to hello@carbon.kids to see, fix or delete what we hold about you, or to come off our lists, or use the unsubscribe link in any email. We keep sign-up details until you ask us to remove them or we stop sending those emails.
